Celebs Step Out to Support the NYC Food Bank

Our favorite stars attended the New York City Food Bank’s ‘Can-Do’ Awards and spoke with our Josh McBride about the night’s importance!

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka

The New York City Food Bank provides meals to 1.5 million New Yorkers yearly, and couple Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka were thrilled to show their support.

Burtka says, “The food bank is an amazing cause, and to be a part of something like this is an absolute honor. To join together with someone who is making such a difference in other people’s lives and feeding the world 1 billion meals now… I mean, it’s just insane!”

NPH adds, “It’s hard in New York City to not recognize all around you that there’s a lot of people less fortunate than you…We live in Harlem, we see a lot of people who need help, and I think it’s a personal responsibility to do something…and when you’re asked by people at the Food Bank to come and be a part of an evening… it’s the least we could do!”

I’m sure the help of this beloved duo is much-appreciated!

Katie Lee

Author and chef Katie Lee never misses out on this event, and she was eager to share why with Josh.

She says, “I think that this is an incredibly important organization. I’m on the board of the Food Bank, and hunger is a solvable problem. This is something that everybody can make a difference in…if you can’t donate funds, you can go volunteer, you can start a canned food drive in your workplace. There are so many ways to make a difference!”

There’s no excuse not to get involved!

Thom Filicia

Interior Designer and TV Personality Thom Filicia tells Josh why he chooses to support the cause.

He shares, “I just feel like food is a very fundamental thing that, you know, we take for granted and to have access to it…people travel from all over the world to experience the food of New York City, and when you think about that there are people that are not able to provide for themselves or their family…it breaks your heart.”

He then adds that any donation can go a long way!

LuAnn De Lesseps

TV Personality LuAnn De Lesseps feels that the charity is really special and advises people to help out.

She tells Josh, “Feeding the people of New York City is amazing…it’s a great cause, so you should give your time, money, whatever you can.”

Money can’t buy you class, but donating to charity sure can!

José André

Chef José André has a slightly different perspective than the other celebs on The Food Bank, but his ultimate goal is the same, and that is to end hunger in the United States.

He says, “We should be asking ourselves, why do we need to be raising money on a night like tonight so the New York City Food Bank can operate? Actually, The Food Bank should be out of business!”

André hopes that the country will soon get to the point where everyone is able to support themselves, and therefore a food bank is no longer necessary. We hope so too José!
